Kika was introduced to the art of flower arrangement at age four in Kumamoto, Japan.
She was inspired and taught by her mother,
Mrs. Shoka Narimasu and worked as her assistant.
Kika also regularly traveled back to Japan to study under Ms. Kasumi Teshigahara. She received her teacher’s certificates from The Sogetsu School in 1967. In March 1989, she earned the prestigious title of “RIJI” (director’s degree), the highest degree offered by The Sogetsu School. Kika has
been a master teacher in Ikebana for over 38 years.
In 1990, late Headmaster Hiroshi Teshigahara
assigned Kika as the Deputy Director of the Sogetsu San Jose-South Bay Branch.
Due to her outstanding performance, she was
appointed Sogetsu Regional Director of North
America from 1996 to 2002. In 2002, she was
appointed by Headmaster Akane Teshigahara
as Coordinator of the West Coast in North America.
Kika also remains an active member of Ikebana
International. Kika specializes in unique
line designs that enrich living and working environments.
Her clients include banks, restaurants, hotel, wedding parties, and special events. She has been invited by various organizations, schools and professional floral markets to conduct demonstrations and workshops.
In 2001, she received the “International
Award” from late Headmaster Hiroshi Teshigahara
recognizing her as the most active Sogetsu
teacher internationally.
