Portland Branch honored the Portland Rose Festival with its 34th consecutive yearly exhibition at the Japanese Garden. Each arrangement featured roses. For some new students, the Rose Festival Show is their first opportunity to place an arrangement in an exhibition, while others have contributed for many years.

Prior to the opening of the exhibition, Mrs. Kika Shibata, West Coast Coordinator of Sogetsu North America came from San Jose, California and conducted a workshop. She challenged participants to use materials in unconventional ways.

This year's Rose Festival exhibition was chaired by Leslie Dolin. She did a beautiful arrangement as a memorial to long-time Portland branch member, Minako Frady, who died earlier this year. Carmen Sivertson created an arrangement in memorial for Mary Nakadate.

Branch members do demonstrations for the Japanese Garden's thousands of Rose Festival visitors from all over the world. They leave with a basic understanding and appreciation of the art of ikebana.
